Josh Kerr has challenged anyone to come and have a go if they think they are hard enough after being named in Team Scotland’s athletics squad for the Commonwealth Games.
He finished last in the 1500m final at Birmingham 2022.

What happened?

Kerr sustained a calf injury during the final in Tokyo at the 2025 World Championships, but he was back in top form at the World Indoor Championships in Torún earlier this year, claiming his second 3000m title.

Why it matters for Josh Kerr

The Edinburgh native has revealed he is exactly on track for his shot at glory at the London Stadium, where he will attempt to break Hicham El Guerrouj’s mile record of 3:43.13 set in 1999.

What comes next?

Kerr will aim to add Commonwealth silverware to his collection as he returns to Scotstoun Stadium, the scene of his younger days in athletics, after his world record attempt on 18 July.

He is documenting his journey in minute detail on his YouTube channel and has no fear of giving away his secrets, saying “I've worked hard to do everything right and if you want to do what I do, feel free.”

Kerr finished at the back of the pack at the 2025 World Championships, but this time was different from the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The 28-year-old said: “I don't feel the pressure of needing to perform in front of that crowd because I know that I have it in me and I've done it before, so it's just following that script as much as I can.”

And he added: “Everything's going extremely smoothly, I couldn't ask to be in a better spot for it.”
